Typical Client Project Tasks

There are a number of project tasks best carried out by the client including User Acceptance testing (UAT) the name gives that one away and data preparation.

There are several methods available for delivering product training one being train the trainer (The client project management team) who then deliver training to system users. The other training method is where a supplier delivers all the client training online, and or in person.

Often, to appear less expensive that their competitors, suppliers will assign custom report writing to clients generally after delivering user training on the reporting tools, and database structure. Project timelines and report complexities typically result in the suppliers doing this work as a project variation and not the client.

Suppliers generally play a role in data preparation, usually in an advisory role. Advice on data mapping, import file requirements and refresh strategies aid clients with bringing on clean data from their old ERP into the new ERP system.

Clients need to appoint a project manager and project team members who may also act as subject matter experts to deliver client-side project management tasks.

Some of the collaborative tasks between client and supplier include the Go live No Go meeting, change management activities & support and requirements gathering.

Finally, properly constructed and considered ERP projects will include project phases, task and phase reviews and documents requiring client sign-off.
